ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The NagyMolnár light-artist duo’s ethereal installation gives full justice to – and is given full justice by – the dramatic exhibition space. The Trinitarian crypt glows with Zoroastrian light-scapes – picturesque sculptures or sculpted pictures – that keep changing while observed, looking, each and every time and to each and every observer, different. The use of light as a medium evokes beyond-visible realms. In the classless struggle between light and darkness, light doesn’t illuminate; it reveals, conceals, purifies, and touches on the infinite by revealing new dimensions. Light as a universal tool, a practical implement: darkness is not the opposite, but the bearer of light.

The Infinite in easy steps:

1. In the Beginning

The visitor is greeted by pair of symmetrically placed works. Universe is built around a large mirror sphere. The sphere’s surface and the glass cube’s internal reflections create the illusion of endless space that loops back upon itself. Choice is likewise configured of reflections and transparencies.

2. Angels

Three works from the Angel series mounted as an altar of light.

3. Fall and Ascension

The Fall and Ascension installations mirror one another reversed.

4. Mirror

Viewers can step into or peer into a work composed of glass panes and flat and distorted mirrors suspended on chains.

5. Heaven and Earth

On one side, the shadow of a human body is cast upon the ground; on the other, a transfigured body ascends The exhibition’s end of is also a beginning: retracing one’s steps, one faces one’s own presence.
